Works great, easy to use
Nice sprinkler timer, works great. Buttons and dial are intuitive and response time is fine. LCD screen display (with tiny 3mm bars underlining what station is on or being programmed) might be hard for those with weak vision to see however it’s not an issue for me. Compact size is a bonus, plastic snaps shut firmly and seems quite waterproof. Comes with a cord however it does have 1/2″ holes (1 high volt, 1 sprinkler wire) in the bottom for hard piped connections.

Along with my Wonder Washer and Wonderwash Laundry Mini Countertop Clothes Spin Dryer Portable Clothes Dryer I have a complete portable laundry center. All three items are small and compact for easy storage.

This setup reduces the trips to the laundromat and has paid for itself in no time. Really great to have when boondocking (I have solar and a genset) and are miles from a laundry. I still wash my sheets,and blankets at the laundry. Almost everything else is doable with this setup even my jeans, one bath towel per ld, washcloths,etc,.

For water conservation when boondocking I just wash a light colored load first. After it finishes I place the wet clothes in the spin dryer with the drain hose positioned into Wonder Washer tub so that the wash water can drain back into the washer. I then wash the 2nd load and run them through the spin dryer. I then fill the Wonder Washer with fresh water and follow the same sequence to rinse both loads.

The mini spin dryer is very effective in removing excess water from the laundry and does not stretch items out of shape as hand wringing often does.

After wringing in the spin dryer I place the items on hangers and into the portable clothes dryer that I have set up under my Fantastic Fan vent in the living area so that the humid air can be directed outside. Most things dry in about 15-20 minutes. If the weather is nice I do not put the cover on or use the heat, I instead just airdry. I also have a Whitmor 6023-741 Folding Drying Rack, White that works well for air drying outdoors as well as indoors.

This heating unit can be used as a electric room heater by setting up the base but do not put the center pole with the drying arms or the cover on. It gently blows out hot air which warms the room. Talk about multi-functional.

The three legs slide easily into slots on the heating unit base. The center pole is in segments and easily goes together with the umbrella style upper pole to hang the clothes on. The dryer cover is heavy nylon with a heavy duty full length zipper. This makes for an easy setup as well as compact storage.

This setup would work well for dorm rooms, small apts, as well as RVS.

Stylish and functional rain barrel
Okay, this will be kinda long, but there are several points I want to make, so please bear with me.

I recently installed a metal roof on my house and have noticed a significant increase in the amount of water running off the roof since then. During heavier rains, the water from one of the downspouts has a tendency to flood back onto the carport, so I thought having a rain barrel at that corner would help catch some of that extra water, in addition to providing me with natural water to use for my flowers.

I researched several different barrels and the first thing I learned was that almost all rain barrels are fairly expensive. But once I got over the initial sticker shock of these glorified trash cans, I saw that the Fiskars brand barrels had pretty good reviews. I found this 58 gallon barrel on Amazon and ordered it; despite its large size, it still qualified for free shipping, which I though was fantastic (thank you, Amazon!).

It is important for these barrels to be installed correctly, and it may take some time to make sure everything is level. I built a small platform out of four 12-inch stepping stones on a brick and sand base. Once I had that level, I placed the barrel on it and went to work installing the downspout catch. That was probably the trickiest part because that tube HAS TO BE level with the intake hole on the barrel in order for the system to work correctly. You will need a 1″ drill bit to make the intake hole for the tube to connect. The directions are sufficient, but they are pretty minimal and rely heavily on pictures with few words. From start to finish, it was probably less than two hours to install the “rain harvesting system.”

A couple of days later, we got our first set of rain showers. I noticed that the tube from the downspout to the barrel was sagging, preventing the water from entering the barrel. This was because when we had cut the tube and installed it, we had left a little extra on it because we didn’t want to cut it too short. But when it started to rain and the water started flowing into the tube, that little extra allowed the tube to sag, preventing the system from working like it needed to since the tube must be level to work correctly. I adjusted the tube to a shorter length, and then also tied a string around the middle of the tube and attached it to the side of the house to provide a support for the tube in case it got too heavy again. This is not an ideal thing to have to do, but I was able to do it in such a way that you can’t really notice it.

The roof on my house is not very large (approx. 1500 sq ft Ranch-style with a 4/12 pitch), so I was surprised how quickly the rain barrel filled up after only a few light showers. Then, when a heavy rain occurred, I was very surprised to see that not only was the rain flowing out the bottom of the downspout like it normally would, but it was actually squirting out of the middle of the downspout where I had installed the catch; that was not good because it was squirting right onto the carport. I quickly attached a water hose to the rain barrel and started draining it so the water could drain into it again also.

I learned two things from that experience:
1) Use the water in the barrel as much as possible, and even if you can’t use it, regularly drain it.
2) When everything is dry, carefully apply caulk around the catch in the downspout to keep the water from squirting out of it.

Now that I have done both of those things, in addition to adding the support string to the hose, I have nothing but positive things to say about the barrel. You can hook a water hose to the barrel or drain water directly into a bucket or watering can. I have hooked up a small hose like you would connect to a washing machine and use that to fill my watering can. I probably use about 10-12 gallons every day to water all my flowers when it is not raining.

If you are considering installing a “rain harvesting system,” I highly encourage you to do so, but be aware of the things I have mentioned so you don’t have similar problems.

Hottest Wok I’ve Ever Used
This Wok has some serious heat. As a professional chef with Asian style recipes on the menu I’ve used many a stove top wok. Until now I’d never found an electric wok that could generate enough heat to sear in the flavors of meats and vegetables. Not only does the Breville Electric Wok deliver as much heat as a top of the range stove top wok, its surface is non-stick so I can use less oil for healthier results. Every thing about the wok is clever, from the detachable base, to the dishwasher safe parts, to the cook and look glass lid. Whoever designed this is in to wok cooking in a big way. Very clever, very stylish, very hot.

Great cooking wok
I’ve done a fair amount of stirfry over the years, and for a long time had a professional level one similar to this Breville. Once it died, I did not get another, and anytime I tried to do stirfry on the oven it was a disaster. Even a new pretty powerful $800 gas oven did NOT get the on-the-stove pan hot enough. I would end up ‘stewing’ the food, and it bore little resemblance to my stirfry’s of the past.

I was VERY impressed with the excellent instructions that are provided in the book this comes with. I studied all their tips for an hour, and was amazed at the things I did NOT know, or had forgotten. Someone who never stirfried before could get first rate results by studying just a few pages. Little things are important – I used to just turn it on, and throw in the oil and wait for it to get hot. WRONG! You are supposed to turn it on EMPTY, let it get VERY hot, and only then put in the oil. And I realized I had started to get lazy, and was not doing smaller batches of items at a time, which does end up with better results.

If I need to get things out of the pan, I just hold a big bowl or plastic container next to it, and slide stuff up the side and out – or I just tip it up and dump it on a plate. Although it is good to know that once every few months I could actually take it apart for an old-fashioned cleaning, all you really need to do is wipe it out with a sponge. The non-stick surface is fantastic. The temperature dial is excellent, and it comes with the most heavy duty cord you ever saw!

Stir-fry is my teenaged son’s favorite meal, and without a good wok, I hardly ever cooked it for him. Now when I tell him we’re having stir-fry, he’s thrilled. Remember this thing would be good for a lot more than just stirfry too. I was amazed that it could slow cook as well. I can make beef stew a one pot dish. Can’t wait to try it out on tempura, which it will also be great for! There are also a lot of great recipes in the book.

Love Is In The Air

I vacuumed while my daughter was napping…I could have never done that w/the upright Kenmore I’m retiring. I’m so happy with this purchase. I will update this review in 6 months (writing reminder in my Franklin). Yes, yes love is in the air.

Six months is around the corner. I am still in love. Can I just tell you that my cleaning habits have changed…I once vacuumed once a week maybe twice, since I received my Miele I vacuum every other day (it’s crazy I know)I’m so addicted to the clean feeling plus I want to share this scent secret with you…when I change the vacuum bag I put 14-18 drops of my favorite essential oil on cotton ball vacuum it up & every time I vacuum that scent is distributed thru the whole house. My favorite scent right now is Lemongrass by Aura Cacia…so natural. I don’t know about you but we have 2 pooches and after a few vacuums you can get a musty rank smelling vacuum air…well the essential oil prevents that smell completely.

Back to the vacuum itself. It really does perform like all the 5 stars it’s rated to be. Good luck I hope you do invest in one of these beauties. Your gonna be in love.

Is it wrong to love a vacuum?!
Wow, I had a very hard time spending this much money for a Vacuum. It was worth every penny. I have vacuumed every surface it my house twice! Save money someplace else. When you look at how long you have a vacuum then this is money well spent. It moves easy, is super light, the tools give you an option for every surface. The normal floor tool rotates in a way that lets you get into tiny spots under furniture. It is so quiet. Love love love the retractable cord. I wish all appliances had that feature. Oh and it’s pretty. I am sold on Miele.

Great for Pet Owners and Hardwood floors
I love this vaccum. I live in a 3 floor townhouse with mostly hardwood floors and tile. I was trying to keep on top of my cat’s shedding with a swiffer but it just wasn’t enough. I bought this vacuum in may. I use the parquet floor tool constantly. The vacuum sucks up all the pet hair,dust, cat litter, cast food, dirt etc. You can extend the metal bar. That has been very helpful when vacumming my stairs and also allowing as big a distance as possible when sucking up bugs. The vacuum is light and is more quiet than the average vacuum. (my cat is deathly afraid of vaccuums. and he is just slightly afraid of this one) The bags are a great size. I have been using the first one since I got it in may and it is only 1/2 way full. I would recommend Miele to everyone. The people at the vacuum store told me that out of every 20 vacuums that come in for repair 7 are Dyson and they very very rarely get miele’s in for repair. (they sell both miele and dyson) Another bonus of owning a miele is that you can order parts even for vacuums 10+ years old. For other brands you would have to just buy a new vacuum. Good Home Composter
I received this product about two months ago and have been pleased with it. It required no assembly, which was very convenient. Open the box, cut the packing tape and it’s ready. The vessel is about half full now and I find that I can turn it easily (5’3 average size woman). Friends who have conventional (non rotating or tumbling) composters are very impressed with the ease with which it turns. I have been filling it and turning it according to what I have read about building composts and it seems to be working fine. Just yesterday I opened the compost and was pleased to find that it was steaming and that it did not stink! My only minor criticism is that the lid can be a little difficult to position properly for closing. It’s slightly annoying but I still recommend the product highly.

It does the job
I bought this thing when Amazon offered it as a Gold Box deal. I am very pleased with this purchase.

It arrived a few days later and was easy to assemble: place mount on ground and drop barrel on top. That’s all! The barrel is accessorized with rollers to help with the tumbling.

This thing looks so much better in the back yard than my tin garbage bin that I had been using as a composter, and the dogs have an impossible time tipping it over. This is a good thing for gardeners who live with raccoons and other compost-eating garden visitors. The barrel didn’t even budge when we had a recent wind storm.

I placed compost in this barrel the day the barrel arrived. The stuff gets hot in the sun, even on cooler days, but when the compost is wet I have a hard time turning the barrel over. My husband said I have too much “soil” in it but the tumbler is not even half full. The indentions on the barrel are often hard to hold on to while trying to tumble this thing. I learned, however, that you don’t need to turn this barrel completely over to turn the compost around inside.

I like this product and am glad I added it to my garden. The black container heats up fast, the compost stays warm and moist, it keeps the decomposing smells down and it looks attractive. One disadavantage is getting the stuff out when it’s done!

Great Drying Rack
I bought this to replace a very similar one that my husband had broken (no easy task–this is sturdy, but he threw a 100+ pound bean bag on top of it). I went to retail stores and couldn’t find a high quality drying rack like this one and was very frustrated until I decided to see if Amazon could save the day. This is a sturdy rack and it far surpasses the traditional wooden racks which begin to bend and splinter. Everyone should own one of these–they are perfect for drying delicates and sweaters that are ravaged and worn out by the harsh effects of being placed in a dryer.

This drying rack is sturdy, durable, and won’t snag clothes like wooden ones do. It is also better made than many of the flimsy metal racks that are available. The bars are fairly thick and will take a beating. I was happy to find this on Amazon and hope to buy another soon, just in case something happens to this one.

Sturdy & Easy to Use
I really like this clothes drying rack. It is sturdy and easy to use & store. It does not have the capacity that my wood clothes rack has but I like the flat top and it holds a fair amount. I tend to wash a lot of clothes at a time (there are four of us) and this does not hold all my large loads but is still very good. I would buy another if I needed one.

Don’t set your hopes too high
If you have a huge job and little time, stick with an 8 hp gas machine or better. After two trips to ACE with my old gas one and it still wouldn’t start I bought this one. Took 20 minutes to assemble, If I had to do it again 7. (easy). To use it, plug it in, turn it on. With the top safety shield in place you can’t get stuff down very fast.. remove guard but use provided goggles. It turns dry leaves to powder mulch, use a stick to poke stuff down. If stuff is wet or green it will plug up and not turn. Unplug it (duh), turn it on its side and hose it out…. a few minutes and your good. You can’t get better mulch… but slow. I will keep my old one and then run the stuff through it (if it starts) and then through the electric one for top dressed mulch… better than commercial mulch.
 
well-built and powerful for an electric chipper
First off, it is not a gasoline engine so it is not going to have the same power due to the limits of amperage typical households can supply. However, even with these power limits I was very impressed with the power this electric chipper has. I was able to chip wood up to 2 inches in diameter with no problem except that the chipper pulls the wood into the machine faster than the machine can handle. So when chipping thick branches it is important to grasp them firmly and pull back when the chipper starts to pull them in too quickly. Be prepared, it pulls hard! If you are patient and feed at the correct rate you should not have any problems with clogs.

If the unit does clog the engine pulls too much power and your breaker will trip, which did happen to me a few times before I learned what the machine could handle. This chipper needs its own 20 amp dedicated circuit or it will trip the breaker when it starts. I live in an older house with older wiring that is mostly 15 amp, which could not handle the current. Luckily, the circuit my refrige is on is a 20 amp circuit that is close enough to a door so the extension cord can reach, but now I have to unplug the refrige when I want to run the chipper. (i’ll fix this inconvenience by running a new 20 amp circuit to an exterior plug) So you should plan to put in a dedicated 20 amp circuit if you don’t have one before you purchase this.

This chipper is very solidly built. If it does clog the plastic leaf bin is sturdy enough so that the entire unit can be upended to clear the chips, but it is heavy so be careful flipping it. The chipper cone isn’t too hard to take off either in case wood gets stuck there. Since it is electric you just flip a switch to turn on and off, which is much more convenient than a gas engine. It is also much quieter than a gasoline engine, but you still should wear hearing protection when using it (no complaints from the neighbors so far).

The wood chips it produces are very fine, but the shredder doesn’t work that well on green stuff. In fact, the shredder part is the easiest to clog. I tried a palm frond in the shredder opening and it clogged the machine. So now I just have to pull the fronds apart and put them through the chipper. It seems the shredder isn’t much good for anything but dry twigs and leaves. But that is no biggie as it is not hard to feed most stuff into the chipper.

I bought this unit when I read the poor reviews for the cheaper electric chippers (free shipping if you order direct from their site). You get what you pay for. Patriot sells a quality machine that you can buy replacement parts for and that can be serviced. The other cheapo chippers don’t even sell replacement blades! What do you do when your blade wears out? Don’t buy a foreign-made piece of crap that you’ll just end up throwing out. No regrets with my purchase.

Worth Every Penny–Will Save Money Long-Term.
This is one of the best-designed, best-built and solid pieces of equipment I own. I was not sure I wanted to pay the $900 for it. Now that I see the quality of this machine, I am certain that buying a cheaper one would have been a big big mistake.

Every part of the machine is very solidly built from the best material for the job, and the sturdiness and thickness of the parts surprised me. There is no thin gauge metal or cheap plastic here. Also, someone must have spent a long time researching and designing the packaging–there is not much chance this could get damaged on the way to you. It is worth saving the box, it is made so well. Also, I did not realize this thing has an onboard vacuum for leaves and such–very handy.

The instruction manuals (both assembly and operation) are short and tell you everything very clearly. IMO, they are a work of art as instruction manuals go. I am surprised they were able to make them so concise and also get so much useful info in there. The simplicity, layout and clarity of the instructions saved me a lot of time. It was a joy to open the box and put the thing together.

This is a piece of equipment that is designed to last a lifetime and pass on to the kids–as long as you keep it clean, sharpen the blades, exert minimal effort to maintain it. And I like the fact that this is an American company that I will be able to get replacement parts from, although I am unlikely to need them. I am very happy with my purchase.

Now I will be able to make my own mulch instead of wasting trips to Home Depot, and will be able to use the prunings from my lot instead of wasting them and needing to take them to the dump. Because I garden a lot, I am convinced this tool will actually save me money, and save a lot of time in the long run–while improving the quality of my garden and orchard.

Update after a week of use: The chipper is amazing. I have only stalled it once when I put in a bunch of dry hardwood (firewood) twigs that were too small to feed properly. It is actually easier to feed large branches than small ones. when clogged, it was not necessary to turn it upside down or wash with hose. Instead I just turned it off and used my leaf blower in the feed cone–that blew the clog out the chip exit. Once, I accidentally put a rock in the shredder (Granite, about 1″. It was in a bag of leaves from a neighbor). It made a lot of noise but otherwise did not seem to hurt the machine. Obviously, trying to shred rocks is a bad idea, but no harm this time. Good buy…this one.
