A great first juicer, or a good juicer for someone who doesn’t juice every day, Black & Decker’s CitrusMate Plus citrus juicer is our choice for best citrus juicer under $50. It will fit into every budget and still deliver lots of fresh juice. This juicer is extremely easy to use, as you just install the cone you want to use (it comes with two cones, making it adaptable for different sizes of fruit), plug it in, and press the fruit down into the cone. Then it goes to work automatically.

With a capacity of more than a quart (34 ounces), this electric juicer can prepare family-size portions with little operator effort. Large and small cones fit on the reamer to accommodate different-size fruits. The reamer automatically reverses itself to extract the maximum amount of juice, while a stirrer presses juice from the pulp in the strainer. Finally, there’s an adjustable control that regulates how much pulp goes into the juice, a feature margarita fanciers will welcome. For storage, the cord wraps in a slot around the base, and a cover protects against dust. Hand wash this juicer in warm soapy water.

Black & Decker CJ525 CitrusMate Plus Citrus Juicer Reviews

wonderfully easy to use
most other juicers will tire out your wrists long before you have enough juice for a cup, but not this one. using it couldn’t be easier- cut the oranges in half, hold one half over the top, and it spins around, and your juice ends up in the little pitcher on the bottom. when you have enough (it has handy markings on the sides of the pitcher for measuring), twist off the pitcher & pour it out.

because the motor is in the seperate base that doesn’t get any juice on it, washing it is super easy- just pop off the juicer piece, the pulp straining top, and the pitcher and wash them in your dishwasher or sink.

Life-Enhancing Health-wise and in Ease of Use
I was in the appliance section of the store and I was trying to decide between the citrusmate and one that was only 5 dollars cheaper.
And then I saw that the CitrusMate has a separate smaller cone for lemons and lime, and since I was buying this thing to make my life a little bit easier while on the Master Cleanse diet/fast (a lemon and water concoction for 14 days), it was a given.

This is my first juicer, so I don’t have a comparison for you, sorry, but I can definitely recommend it as an appliance just by itself. Very efficient in shredding the citrus fruit! It rotates both ways, to get the juice out efficiently. And the clean-up is a breeze.

After this lemonade fast is over, my diet will only be water and juice as far as beverages go, and this thing will be so much easier to use than my Jack la lanne juicing machine, when I just simply want a glass of fresh orange juice!

This little Cuisinart Food Chopper 250-watt workhorse comes in handy when a full-size food processor is unnecessary. The 3-cup work bowl is just right for making pesto or a salad dressing, and two receptacles in the lid have pinholes for one or two oils to stream into the bowl while the processor is blending a perfect emulsion. It’s also ideal for chopping and grinding. Pressing the “chop” button deploys the sharp edge of Cuisinart’s patented reversible blade to chop onions, herbs, or bread crumbs. Pressing the “grind” button whirls the blade in the other direction so its blunt side can grind nuts, coffee beans, or cheese. Compact at just 9 inches high and lightweight (it has a plastic body), the Mini Prep Plus can be tucked away in a cabinet, and the little spatula accompanying it goes into a drawer. It carries an 18-month warranty against defects. The plastic work bowl and lid are dishwasher-safe, but the stainless-steel blade should be hand washed to protect its edges.

Cuisinart DLC-2ABC Mini Prep Plus Food Processor Reviews

I love my MiniPrep, it’s a great help!
I got this as a gift from my boyfriend and have been using it regularly. This is one of those things that you don’t think you ever need (and I did give this topic extensive thought), but once you have it, you would really miss it.

Keeping this in mind, I’ve learnt when to use and when to just use my knife. For instance, when chopping walnuts for banana bread, I put a cup of walnuts into the processor and hit “Chop” – it immediately chopped the walnuts into good sized chunks, but there was a couple of walnuts that didn’t get cut yet, so I hit the “Chop” button a couple more times, but that turned the rest of the walnuts to a very small almost “powder” consistency. I tried it again, with about the same results. I guess I could try putting in less walnuts at a time, but then that would defeat the purpose of “less work” since I’d have to put in a small amount, chop, dump out the first batch, repeat. It’s much easier in this case to do a coarse chop with knife. Chopping Mushrooms in this device also was lacking, it kind of made a mushroom puree.

Where it shines though is in my daily meals where I’m making some kind of pan sauce. Just about all my pan sauces or pan meals start with butter/oil, then saute’ing some garlic and onions. I’ll just peel a few cloves of garlic, coarse chop an onion, dump it all into the MiniPrep, and presto, it’s done! When I’m ready to dump it into my pan, just remove the co, remove the blade and use a mini-silicone spatula to dump the contents directly into the pan. A quick rinse of the lid, blade, and work bowl, and the processor can be put away. That can’t be any easier.

For larger meals and more ingredients, it’s great to just coarsely chop your items, dump into the processor, let it do it’s work, and then fill up your prep bowls with the different ingredients – making everything easier once you’re cooking.

I find the “Chop” and “Grind” feature to be pretty much the same thing, just in opposite directions. The opposite direction thing is helpful to get the food to drop down to the blade. If you don’t put too much in the processor, once the piece is chopped, it gets flung to the sides of the work bowl and sticks there, creating empty space for the unchopped foods to drop into the blade. Everything gets chopped evenly…it just gets chopped very finely too.

The entire unit is very easy to use and clean. The blades are extremely sharp, so be careful when washing those. The clear plastic work bowl does get a little scratched up and not so clear anymore after a bit of use…but then, it’s a work bowl. The buttons are under a protective plastic, sealed – so no chance of anything getting under the buttons, just a quick wipe and it’s clean!

Overall, the unit is small, solid, quiet, easy to use, and easy to clean. It’s great for fine chops to puree, not so great for coarse chops/dice. Perfect size for meals for 2 people. For making larger meals you may want to look at the larger cup sized processors, or just make a couple of batches.

so… you want a food processor?
I have the Mini-Prep and I have the big guy version, but I use the MP 10x as much. It does everything! Want chopped garlic? peel a couple heads, add 2-3T of olive oil and about a 1/4-1/2tsp. of salt. It keeps in a jar in the fridge and tastes a heck of a lot better than the store kind! Fresh herbs, nuts, peppers without burning hands…it’s great! When I’m done, I just rinse it out. This is my favorite appliance after my blender, and if this made smoothies and margaritas, it would be my favorite!

T-Fal’s new high-speed kettle employs 1,750 watts of electric power to bring 1 cup of cold water to a rolling boil in one minute. With the kettle filled to its 7-cup capacity, a full boil is achieved in five minutes. That makes the kettle ideal for instant coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or instant soups. To ensure that the water doesn’t boil away if attention is diverted, the kettle shuts off automatically once the water reaches full boil. For convenience, it lifts off its corded power base for cordless pouring, can be set on the power base in any direction, and turns on (or off) with a simple push of a button on the handle. Inside the spout there’s a removable and washable antiscale filter that extends the kettle’s life. With an exterior of hard, gleaming plastic, the kettle wipes clean easily. It’s pleasingly plump, has water-level windows on both sides and a cord wrap underneath, and carries a one-year warranty against defects.

T-Fal BF6520004 Vitesse 1.7L Electric Kettle Reviews

Great electric kettle design!
I spent hours researching every electric kettle available (and looking at them in person, in stores) before settling on this one. I’ve owned it for about 6 months now, and it’s been great. The concealed heating element and the simple one-piece plastic jug design make it very easy to clean (not that I’ve needed to) and leak resistant (I assume, from a design perspective, since mine has no leaks yet). The only way it could leak is if the grommet sealing the metal bottom piece to the plastic jug developed a leak, whereas most of the stainless steel kettles being sold have several parts, many seams, and thus many places a leak could develop. There is some mild browning of the plastic inside the jug, I suppose a reaction to the high heat. This same thing happened with my roommate’s older plastic electric kettle, so it’s to be expected. People complain about plastic vs. stainless steel, I settled on plastic for one primary reason: it is a better insulator, so not only will it keep the water hotter for longer, it will be safer to handle in general (ie. it won’t burn you or a child if it is accidentally picked up by its sides while it contains hot water). People complain about plastic “leeching chemicals” into the water, I haven’t noticed any difference in taste, personally, and I doubt stainless steel would be much “safer” than plastic in this respect. The switch works great, and mine has never spilled water or over-boiled it (as long as it contains the minimum recommended amount of water). The spout and handle shapes make it easy to pour, and the locking top makes it pretty tough to spill. Definitely recommended, I’m buying another one for my parents right now.

PS – While researching electric kettles, I frequently saw complaints of how kettles designed for use in the USA don’t heat water as fast as those in the UK. This is for a very simple reason: UK uses 240 volt power, USA uses 120 volts. Most electrical receptacles are rated for 15 amps (though the kitchen are often has at least two 20-amp circuits, per NEC recommendations). Watts = volts * amps, which means that UK kettles can get up to 240 volts * 15 amps = 3600 watts, while USA kettles can get up to 120 volts * 15 amps = 1800 watts. Manufacturers might sometimes avoid approaching this limit, perhaps due to safety or liability issues? Just note that this 1750 watt Tfal kettle is very close to the typical USA receptacle wattage rating. It’s just about as high as you’ll be able to get in the USA…most other USA electric kettles only go up to 1500 watts.

Very good
I got more than I expected. Which is good, because it seemed over priced when I bought it. But it was the only one I could find with a truly variable temp control. Now, I think the price was fair.

Pro’s
- Variable temprature: This is why I picked this product. I wanted full control of the temp of the water.
- Filtered spout: I don’t use it. Could be useful for keeping tea or any other particles in the pot while pouring.
- Dock station: The pot is easily removed from doc, so there is no cord in the way when pouring.
- Hidden Cord: Cord winds up inside the dock. Makes it easy to hide extra cord, if you have that luxury. See Cons :(.
- Insulated: Keeps water hot for a long time.
- Auto off: Turns of when it gets to temperature.

Cons
- 4ft cord: I could use 1 more foot :(.

Wish list:
- Stay On Option: Keeping water at temperature would be a nice option. Rather than letting it slowly cool down.
- Thermometer: Doesn’t tell you the actual temperature of the water. Not even an estimate on the temperature knob.

FANTASTIC product!!
I can’t imagine anyone not loving this electric kettle. My first one was a gift, received about 5 years ago. It’s used numerous times every day and still brings water to a boil as fast as it did for that first cup of tea. The microwave and stove lose the race to the T-Fal. Once the water is at the boiling point for about 15 seconds the kettle turns off automatically. That safety feature rates high on my list of kudos for this product. The handle is extremely comfortable, the pot is easy to fill and pour. We always take our T-Fal Electric Kettle with us when we travel(we have a 4 cup version as well as a 7 cup…I’m sorry they no longer make the small one). I’ve only been able to find them on line but believe me I never want to be without one.

Presto 05420 FryDaddy Electric Deep Fryer Reviews

It Does The Job!
I’ve had one of these little fryer appliances since they first became popular in the seventies. The current model is the second one I’ve had, being larger than the original model that came out.

For someone not needing to fry enormous amounts at one time, this little machine is ideal. It requires only a very small amount of vegetable oil. I’ve used it to fry chicken wings, quickly, to do french fries and onion rings, to do other smaller chicken parts, and it works beautifully. There is no thermostat; you just plug it in, wait 10 minutes, and the temp is 375. Having such a small amount of grease, it recovers heat more quickly than an electric skillet.

When you are through, if you plan to reuse the grease you can simply let the machine cool, snap the plastic top on, the put the whole thing in the fridge. I don’t fry that often, and when I do, I tend to fry a lot, so usually I just discard the oil. Such a small amount is used (usually no more than 3 cups starting out) that I don’t feel bad about discarding the oil.

The sides on this appliance are quite high, and splatter around the machine has never been a problem. I used common sense, though, when I fry, whether it’s here or on the stove.

I’m sure the all-enclosed auto-fryers that are out on the market are nice, and if I fried a lot I’d probably get one. However, I only fry once or twice a month, and for that, this little machine is perfect. I’d recommend one to anyone–durable, simple, and does exactly what it’s designed for!

Good for my frying needs
I fry things about 1-2 times a week, and I liked my fried things to be very crispy yet not laden with oil. I wanted something that would truly get to a hotter frying temperature, to make my frying quicker and more “healthful”…(healthy frying….is that an oxymoron or what?) Because I don’t fry THAT often, I just needed something simple.

I like this fryer because the heat-up time is very quick, and there is much less splatter then if you were frying in a pot. When I fry, I usually do your typical fried foods: fries, onion rings, wontons, etc. I have not tried to do anything else in it yet.

If the oil is fairly clean after I use it, I will put it in the refridgerator, but not keep more than a week. This is a very simple fryer. If you are a more heavy-duty fryer, then you might want to look into a fancier one. The exterior is not cool-touch, and there is no basket. If you only do small batches of things, and don’t really fry that much, or even if you do, then this will be a great fryer for you.

Simple to Use
This machine is really easy to use…I fried dough to make funnel cake and donuts, and it was simple. All you have to do is put in your oil, heat it up, and add the dough. The number of things you can fry is endless. My personal favorites are the funnel cake, chicken tenders, and french fries. Depending on what you are making, cooking time can vary from mere minutes to a half hour. Experiment, create your own recipes, it’s easy.

One word of advice is to make sure to clean the fryer and change the oil regularly. Nothing is worse than frying with old oil. Keep the fryer very clean! Enjoy!
